Guide Instructions

The following guide explains the results of the STEPS Discipleship Assessment. In addition, it provides suggestions for future growth steps along with links to lessons.

SECTION SCORING DESCRIPTIONS

SHAPE Section Scoring: (Maximum: 65 points)

  • Beginning Disciple (13-22 points): Your spiritual foundation is just forming. Focus on understanding basic salvation concepts and developing spiritual habits.
  • Developing Disciple (23-33 points): You’re establishing core beliefs but need to strengthen your understanding of salvation and holiness.
  • Growing Disciple (34-44 points): You have a good grasp of salvation concepts and are working on applying holiness in daily life.
  • Mature Disciple (45-55 points): You consistently apply biblical principles regarding salvation and holiness in your daily walk.
  • Multiplying Disciple (56-65 points): Strong foundation in salvation and holiness; consistently living out faith with clear understanding of God’s purpose for your life

THEOLOGY Section Scoring: (Maximum: 65 points)

  • Beginning Disciple (13-22 points): You’re just beginning to learn theological concepts. Focus on systematic Bible reading and study.
  • Developing Disciple (23-33 points): You have basic theological knowledge but need deeper understanding of key doctrines.
  • Growing Disciple (34-44 points): You have a good foundation in theology and are developing more nuanced understanding.
  • Mature Disciple (45-55 points): You have a comprehensive theological framework that guides your Christian walk.
  • Multiplying Disciple (56-65 points): You have deep theological understanding and can effectively teach these concepts to others.

EQUIP Section Scoring: (Maximum: 75 points)

  • Beginning Disciple (15-27 points): You’re beginning to explore spiritual disciplines and gifts. Focus on consistent Bible reading and prayer.
  • Developing Disciple (28-39 points): You have established some spiritual disciplines but need more intentional development of spiritual gifts.
  • Growing Disciple (40-51 points): You regularly practice spiritual disciplines and are discovering how to use your gifts.
  • Mature Disciple (52-63 points): You consistently apply spiritual disciplines and effectively use your gifts in ministry.
  • Multiplying Disciple (64-75 points): You model spiritual disciplines for others and help them identify and develop their spiritual gifts.

PRACTICE Section Scoring: (Maximum: 115 points)

  • Beginning Disciple (23-39 points): You’re beginning to establish spiritual habits. Focus on creating a consistent devotional and prayer life.
  • Developing Disciple (40-56 points): You’ve established some spiritual disciplines but need more consistency in areas like fasting, corporate worship, and stewardship.
  • Growing Disciple (57-73 points): You regularly practice spiritual disciplines and are developing maturity in your church participation.
  • Mature Disciple (74-90 points): You consistently apply spiritual disciplines and actively participate in church life and stewardship.
  • Multiplying Disciple (91-115 points): Your spiritual practices are exemplary and you model these disciplines for others in your church community.

SHARE Section Scoring: (Maximum: 30 points)

  • Beginning Disciple (6-10 points): You’re just beginning to understand evangelism. Focus on becoming more comfortable sharing your faith.
  • Developing Disciple (11-14 points): You have basic evangelism understanding but need more practice in sharing your faith.
  • Growing Disciple (15-18 points): You regularly engage in evangelistic activities but could be more intentional.
  • Mature Disciple (19-22 points): You consistently share your faith and support evangelistic efforts.
  • Multiplying Disciple (23-30 points): You are highly effective in evangelism and actively help equip others to share their faith.


GUIDE FOR IMPROVEMENT

If your overall score is in the BEGINNING DISCIPLE range:

  1. Focus on foundations: Establish a consistent daily prayer and Bible reading habit
  2. Join a small group: Connect with other Christians for mutual encouragement and learning
  3. Seek mentorship: Find a more mature Christian who can guide your discipleship journey
  4. Study the basics: Work through foundational Christian doctrines and salvation concepts
  5. Practice spiritual disciplines: Start with simple disciplines like daily devotions and corporate worship

If your overall score is in the DEVELOPING DISCIPLE range:

  1. Deepen your study: Move beyond surface-level Bible reading to more in-depth study
  2. Increase consistency: Make your spiritual disciplines more regular and intentional
  3. Develop accountability: Find trusted Christians who will hold you accountable
  4. Expand your service: Find ways to serve using your gifts within your church
  5. Begin sharing: Practice articulating your faith with others in comfortable settings

If your overall score is in the GROWING DISCIPLE range:

  1. Apply Scripture deeply: Move from knowledge to deeper application in daily life
  2. Diversify spiritual practices: Expand your spiritual disciplines to include fasting, solitude, etc.
  3. Increase evangelism: Be more intentional about sharing your faith with non-believers
  4. Develop theological depth: Study more advanced theological concepts
  5. Expand your service: Look for leadership opportunities within your areas of giftedness

If your overall score is in the MATURE DISCIPLE range:

  1. Mentor others: Begin discipling newer believers in their faith journey
  2. Lead ministries: Take on leadership roles within church ministries
  3. Deepen your spiritual warfare strategies: Develop more advanced spiritual disciplines
  4. Broaden your theological understanding: Study different theological perspectives
  5. Increase your missional impact: Get involved in cross-cultural or mission opportunities

If your overall score is in the MULTIPLYING DISCIPLE range:

  1. Focus on multiplication: Help others become disciple-makers themselves
  2. Develop leaders: Invest in identifying and developing church leaders
  3. Strategic ministry planning: Help shape vision and strategy for church ministries
  4. Advanced theological contribution: Consider teaching or writing to share insights
  5. Kingdom expansion: Look for ways to start new ministries or support church planting
