Ministering to the Poor

Friday (June 5, 2026) - Focus: Share

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. - Proverbs 19:17 (KJV)
Pity upon the poor is never meant to be a detached emotion; it is an active response that mirrors God's heart for the broken. When we give to those in need, Scripture tells us we are 'lending to the Lord,' showing that our resources are simply being channeled through us by His grace. Meeting physical needs—food, shelter, clothing—is a vital way to gain a hearing for the Gospel. If we ignore the physical suffering around us, we lose our credibility to speak of spiritual truth.

Are you merely 'aware' of the poor, or are you 'involved'? Today, look for a way to serve those in need. It could be through a local pantry, a charity that serves the homeless, or a direct act of mercy to a neighbor struggling to make ends meet. When you serve them, you are interacting with the heartbeat of God. Do not just speak of His love; let it be seen through your generosity.

Daily Reflection: How are you actively sharing God's love by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the poor?

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.

“Go ye therefore, and make disciples”

The purpose of this program is to foster spiritual development and active learning, encouraging individuals to reflect on their discipleship journeys and apply biblical teachings in everyday life.

The Bible encourages us to grow in our spiritual knowledge and practice:

“Be diligent in these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy progress may be manifest unto all.” (1 Timothy 4:15)

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)

“Wherefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on unto perfection (maturity)…” (Hebrews 6:1)

DEN provides essential lessons that cover salvation, holiness, biblical doctrines, spiritual disciplines, and the importance of sharing faith with others. Each section builds on the previous one and is grounded in scripture, offering actionable steps to cultivate spiritual maturity leading toward a holistic understanding of discipleship and effective evangelism.

Central to this process is the “STEPS Discipleship Assessment,” a systematic tool that helps participants evaluate their spiritual growth and identify areas for improvement. By scoring your progress across five key sections, you can understand your discipleship level—ranging from Beginning Disciple to Multiplying Disciple—and receive tailored recommendations for growth.

Whether you are just starting your faith journey or seeking to deepen your existing walk with God, “S.T.E.P.S. of Discipleship” provides a robust framework for intentional growth and discipleship, empowering you to fulfill your calling as a disciple of Christ.
