Yielding to the Holy Spirit
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. – Galatians 5:16
Walking in the Spirit is the only antidote to the pull of the flesh. We often try to ‘fight’ sin with our own willpower, which usually results in exhaustion or defeat. Yielding to the Spirit, however, is a proactive surrender. It means checking in with Him before we react in anger, before we make a decision, and before we give in to temptation. It is the practice of inviting His presence into the mundane moments of our day to guide our steps and align our will with His.
What would it look like to yield today? It might mean pausing to pray before responding to a tense email or choosing to listen to the promptings of conscience over the impulses of your ego. Practice ‘walking in the Spirit’ by asking Him in the moment: ‘Lord what would You have me do?’ As you yield you will find that the desires of the flesh lose their grip replaced by the peace and direction of the One who dwells within you.
Prompt: What does it practically look like for you to yield to the Holy Spirit today?
Action Step: Spiritual growth requires intentional yielding to the Spirit’s guidance.
