Worshiping with Expectation

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God

Scripture: My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. – Psalm 62:5

Many of us attend corporate worship as a weekly duty rather than an expectant encounter. But Psalm 62:5 teaches us to ‘wait only upon God’ with an active, holy expectation that He is going to move. Expectation changes our demeanor; it turns a distracted spectator into a hungry participant. If we come seeking only the familiar, we will likely leave unchanged. But if we come believing that the King of Glory is present and that His Word has the power to transform, our worship becomes a radical event.

As you head to worship today prepare your heart with this question: ‘What do I need from God today?’ Arrive early pray for the service and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal something of His glory to you. Come with the conviction that you are not just walking into a room of people but into the throne room of the Almighty. When you bring an expectant heart, you invite God to meet you in a way that transcends the ordinary. Open your soul to Him today—He is ready to encounter you.

Prompt: Do you arrive at church expecting to encounter the living God and be changed by His presence?
