Worshiping with Brokenness
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God
Scripture: The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. – Psalm 51:17
We often arrive at church wanting to be inspired or entertained, but the sacrifice God actually desires is a broken spirit. Worship is not about showing God how well we are doing; it is about admitting how much we need Him. A broken heart is one that has stopped pretending to be self-sufficient and has realized its total dependence on grace. God does not despise this honesty—He treasures it. It is the only posture that allows His glory to truly shine through our lives.
As you enter the sanctuary release the need to look ‘together.’ If you are struggling hurting or failing bring that to the altar. Let your worship be an admission of your need for His strength. When you stop bringing your achievements to God and start bringing your brokenness, you open the door to His greatest work in your life. Come with a contrite heart today, and experience the God who never despises the one who simply reaches out for His mercy.
Prompt: Do you approach worship with a sense of self-sufficiency, or with a genuine awareness of your need for God’s grace?
Action Step: True worship flows from a heart that is humbled, contrite, and entirely dependent on the mercy of God.
