Worshiping in the Storm

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God

Scripture: Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. – Job 1:20-21 (KJV)

Worship is most authentic when it is the most costly. When Job lost everything, his first response was to fall to the ground and worship. He didn’t offer praise because he understood his circumstances—he offered it because he understood the character of the God who gave and the God who took away. A sacrifice of praise doesn’t deny the reality of your pain; it acknowledges that God is greater than your pain. It is the decision to anchor your heart in His goodness, even when your hands are empty.

If you are hurting today, bring that pain to the altar. You don’t have to hide your tears or force a smile to be a worshipper. True worship is saying, ‘Lord, I am broken, but You are still worthy.’ Let your presence at worship today be an act of defiance against despair. By choosing to bless His name while in the storm, you are declaring that He is your treasure, your hope, and your God, no matter what happens.

Prompt: How can you offer a sacrifice of praise to God today, even if you are currently walking through a season of grief or hardship?

Action Step: Worship is not dependent on our circumstances, but is a steadfast declaration of God’s unchanging goodness and sovereignty.
