Worshiping in Spirit
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God
Scripture: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. – John 4:24 (KJV)
Worship ‘in spirit’ is an interior reality—it is the deepest part of who we are engaging the Spirit of God. We can sing the right words and stand in the right posture, but if our hearts are not moving in union with the Holy Spirit, we are just going through the motions. True spiritual worship is the product of an inner fire ignited by the realization of God’s glory. It is the spirit of the believer meeting the Spirit of the Father in intimate, transformative encounter.
As you worship today, fight against the temptation to perform. Stop looking at those around you and turn your attention toward the invisible reality of God’s presence. Ask the Holy Spirit to move in your own spirit, to awaken your affections, and to lead you into a deeper place of adoration. Let your worship today be an authentic, spirit-led movement of your heart. When you worship in spirit, you leave the realm of ritual and enter the realm of relationship.
Prompt: Is your worship today engaging the deepest, spiritual part of who you are, moved by the Holy Spirit, rather than just going through the motions?
Action Step: True worship requires us to engage with God on a spiritual level, responding from our hearts as prompted by the Holy Spirit.
