Worship in Spirit and Truth
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God
Scripture: God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. – John 4:24 (KJV)
Worship that is acceptable to God must be rooted in both spirit and truth; it is a heart-level engagement with the reality of who He is. When we worship in spirit, we are yielding our internal lives to the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to ignite our devotion. When we worship in truth, we are anchoring our praise in the objective reality of God’s Word. If our worship is devoid of truth, it becomes mere emotion; if it is devoid of spirit, it becomes cold ritual.
As you gather with your church family today check the state of your heart. Is your worship genuine or are you just going through the motions? Come with a desire to honor God’s truth letting the Scriptures inform your praise and open your spirit to the leading of the Holy One. When you unite these two, your worship becomes a powerful, authentic expression of love that reaches the heart of God.
Prompt: Are you approaching corporate worship with genuine sincerity and a desire to honor God's truth?
Action Step: Worshiping God requires both an engaged heart (spirit) and an understanding of His Word (truth).
