Scripture: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; – Colossians 3:23 (KJV)
Work is often viewed as a necessary evil—a burden to be endured until the weekend. However, Scripture elevates our daily labor into an act of worship. When Paul tells us to work ‘heartily, as to the Lord,’ he is removing the boundary between the sacred and the secular. Whether you are answering emails, cleaning a home, or leading a team, your performance is a reflection of your commitment to Christ. You are not primarily serving a boss or a company; you are performing your duties for an audience of One.
Today, change the ‘why’ behind your tasks. Instead of focusing on your paycheck or the praise of your coworkers, visualize Jesus standing right beside you. If He were reviewing your output, would He be pleased with your diligence, your attitude, and your excellence? Bringing this divine perspective into your workplace transforms the mundane into ministry and turns your daily toil into an offering that glorifies God.
Prompt: Are you viewing your daily work as a platform to honor and serve the Lord, rather than just a way to earn a living?
Action Step: The SHAPE module encourages us to see our daily labor as an expression of our God-given attributes and plans.
Next Step: Dedicate your tasks today to the Lord, committing to do them with excellence.
