Scripture: And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. – Jeremiah 29:7

The call to ‘seek the peace of the city’ is a radical mandate to engage with the place where God has placed us, regardless of whether we feel entirely at home there. True ‘peace’ (shalom) in a city involves more than just the absence of conflict; it involves the flourishing and spiritual well-being of our neighbors. We are called to be an active, praying presence, working toward the common good and introducing the hope of the Gospel to those who are lost. Our witness is most effective when our lives reflect a genuine care for our community’s future.

Consider how you can be a catalyst for peace today. Can you volunteer for a local initiative, get to know a neighbor who is outside your usual social circle, or pray specifically for the leaders of your town? When we invest in our community’s well-being, we are participating in the mission of God. Stop viewing your city as just a place you pass through and start seeing it as a harvest field that needs the light of Christ. Your presence matters more than you think.

Prompt: How can you actively seek the peace and spiritual prosperity of the city or town where you live?

Action Step: Sharing Christ includes praying for and actively blessing the community God has placed us in.

Next Step: Spend time today specifically praying for the civic leaders and peace of your city.
