The Wrath of God
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; – Romans 1:18 (KJV)
It is common in our culture to focus solely on God’s love while ignoring His justice. However, the Bible presents God’s wrath not as a temper tantrum, but as His settled, holy opposition to everything that destroys His creation and corrupts the truth. Understanding the gravity of His wrath is the lens through which we finally see the majesty of His grace. Without a clear view of how high the cost of sin truly is, we tend to treat our salvation as a cheap and casual gift.
As you reflect on His holiness today, let the reality of His justice serve as a mirror for your own life. It wasn’t your ‘goodness’ that saved you from wrath; it was the substitutionary work of Christ who took that wrath upon Himself. When you understand what He saved you *from*, you will find that your appreciation for His grace moves from a shallow sentiment to a deep, transformative gratitude.
Prompt: How does understanding God’s holy wrath against sin deepen your appreciation for His grace?
Action Step: Sound Theology acknowledges both the love of God and His perfect, just wrath against sin.
Next Step: Take time to thank God for His grace that shields you from the wrath your sin deserved.
