The Role of Community in Warfare
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV)
Spiritual warfare was never intended to be a solo endeavor. The ‘threefold cord’ is a picture of the strength we find when we are tethered to one another and to Christ. When you feel the weight of temptation, doubt, or external pressure, having a community to stand in the gap is often the difference between crumbling and standing firm. Secrecy is the enemy’s playground; when you bring your struggles into the light of a trusted community, his hold on you begins to break.
Do you have someone you can call when the battle intensifies? If not, prayerfully consider who in your church you can invite into a closer bond of accountability and prayer. Being part of a spiritual ‘cord’ requires vulnerability, but it provides the kind of protection that solitary effort simply cannot. Today, thank God for the people in your life who hold up your arms when you are weary, and check in on them to see how you can hold up theirs.
Prompt: Who is standing with you in prayer when you face intense spiritual opposition?
Action Step: Equipping involves understanding that spiritual warfare is not meant to be fought in isolation, but within the body of believers.
Next Step: Reach out to a trusted believer and ask them to pray with you regarding a specific battle.
