The New Covenant
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. – Luke 22:20 (KJV)
The New Covenant is the heartbeat of our faith—it is the shift from a relationship based on the rigid letter of the Law to a relationship based on the living power of grace. Under the Old Covenant, the distance between God and man was defined by our failure to keep the Law; under the New Covenant, that distance has been bridged by the blood of Jesus. This means you do not have to approach God in fear of condemnation, but in confidence of His finished work.
Live today in the freedom of this covenant. When you fail, you don’t need to offer a sacrifice to restore your standing—Christ is your once-and-for-all sacrifice. Let this truth move you from a life of ‘trying to earn’ to a life of ‘living in response.’ Your relationship with God is secure because of His blood, not your behavior.
Prompt: How does living under the New Covenant of grace change your daily relationship with God?
Action Step: Sound Theology teaches that the New Covenant is written on our hearts and sealed by the blood of Jesus.
Next Step: Spend time thanking Jesus for the finality and perfection of His sacrifice.
