The Love of God
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. – 1 John 4:8 (KJV)
God does not just ‘do’ love; He is the very essence and origin of love. Because we have been brought into union with Him, His love must flow through us as naturally as breath. If our lives are characterized by bitterness, coldness, or indifference, we reveal that we have yet to fully grasp the character of the God we claim to serve. Authentic knowledge of God always results in an overflow of love toward others, especially those who are difficult to love.
Consider the people you will encounter today. Are you looking at them through the lens of your own comfort or through the lens of God’s sacrificial love? Love is not a sentiment; it is an action that seeks the highest good of another person regardless of their behavior. When you choose to be patient, kind, and forgiving, you are not just ‘being nice’—you are revealing the heart of the Father to a world that desperately needs to know Him.
Prompt: Does your daily interaction with others reflect the fundamental truth that the God you serve is love?
Action Step: Sound Theology must begin with understanding the core attributes of God, the greatest of which is His unfailing love.
Next Step: Take five minutes to meditate on the depth of God’s love for you.
