The Kingdom of God
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. – Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
To seek the Kingdom of God first is to reorder our entire value system, placing His eternal agenda above our temporal, personal ambitions. It is a conscious shift from asking ‘what can I achieve for myself?’ to asking ‘how can I serve His righteousness in this situation?’ When we prioritize His kingdom, we align our hearts with the heartbeat of God, discovering that our true needs are met in His provision rather than our frantic striving.
Practical kingdom-seeking often looks like mundane faithfulness—choosing honesty in a difficult business deal, extending mercy when you would rather be bitter, or choosing to serve the church when you are tired. It is the steady conviction that God’s way is the best way. As you pursue His righteousness today, let go of the need to build your own empire and trust that He is faithful to provide everything you need for His glory.
Prompt: What does it practically look like for you to seek God’s kingdom above your personal ambitions today?
Action Step: Sound Theology teaches that the Kingdom of God is both a present reality and a future hope.
Next Step: Evaluate your calendar and finances to see if they reflect a kingdom-first priority.
