The Immutability of God

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology

Scripture: For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. – Malachi 3:6

We live in a world defined by volatility—relationships shift, economies fluctuate, and our own emotions are in constant flux. In the midst of this shifting sand, the immutability of God stands as our only solid ground. Because God does not change, His character, His promises, and His love for you are exactly the same today as they were yesterday. This is not just a theological fact; it is a personal comfort. If God were to change His mind about His grace or His purpose for your life, we would indeed be ‘consumed’ by our own instability.

Whenever you feel overwhelmed by the instability of your circumstances anchor yourself in the changelessness of the Father. He is the Rock whose foundation never moves. The God who was faithful to His people in the past is the exact same God who is orchestrating your life right now. You can find peace today knowing that you are held by One who is perfectly consistent perfectly reliable and completely beyond the reach of time and change.

Prompt: How does the fact that God never changes give you peace in a constantly changing world?

Action Step: Theology anchors us in the truth that God’s character and promises remain exactly the same forever.

Next Step: Write down three attributes of God and thank Him that they will never change.
