The Goodness of God
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. – Psalm 34:8
The goodness of God is the bedrock of our trust, yet we often reduce it to a mental concept rather than an experiential reality. The Psalmist invites us to ‘taste and see,’ implying that we must move beyond hearsay and engage with the living presence of the Lord. His goodness is manifested in the small mercies of the morning, the provision of our daily bread, and the comfort He whispers into our deepest anxieties. It is not something we observe from a distance; it is something we consume through trust.
Look back over the past seven days and identify the fingerprints of His kindness. Did He provide an unexpected answer to a prayer? Did He offer peace in the middle of a conflict? Or perhaps He simply sustained your heartbeat for another week. When you recount these evidences of His character, your trust is strengthened, and your heart is prepared to face the future with the assurance that He remains good regardless of your current circumstances.
Prompt: How have you personally experienced the goodness of God in your life this week?
Action Step: Essential doctrine teaches us that God is inherently good and His actions flow from that goodness.
Next Step: List three specific ways God has shown His goodness to you recently.
