The Decrees of God
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: – Isaiah 46:10
The decrees of God are the eternal, unchangeable decisions He has made regarding the history of the world and our individual lives. For some, this concept is frustrating because it feels like a loss of human autonomy; for the believer, however, it is the ultimate source of peace. Knowing that God declares the end from the beginning means that nothing happens outside of His ultimate purpose. Our lives are not a series of random accidents or chaotic events, but a unfolding plan orchestrated by a God whose counsel always stands.
When you face circumstances that seem to be going in the wrong direction remind yourself that the sovereign plan of God is not subject to human error or circumstance. You can find deep rest in the fact that your future is held by the One who has already declared the end. Stop fighting for control of the outcome and start trusting the Architect of the plan. When you align your heart with His sovereignty your life moves from a place of anxiety to a place of unshakeable confidence.
Prompt: Does the knowledge that God's sovereign plan cannot be thwarted bring you peace or frustration?
Action Step: Theology teaches us that God has ordained whatsoever comes to pass, assuring us that history is firmly in His hands.
Next Step: Write down a current global or personal uncertainty and surrender it to God's sovereign decrees.
