The Church (Ecclesiology)
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. – Colossians 1:18 (KJV)
The Church is not a building or a weekly event; it is the living body of Christ, with Jesus Himself serving as the Head. Our commitment to the local body of believers is not optional; it is essential for our spiritual maturity and our ability to reflect Christ to a watching world. When we commit ourselves to a local assembly, we are submitting to Christ’s design for discipleship, accountability, and the shared mission of the Gospel.
Deep commitment means moving beyond being a consumer of ‘church services’ to becoming a contributing member of Christ’s body. Just as every part of the human body has a purpose you have been uniquely SHAPED to serve your local congregation. Evaluate your current engagement and ask how you can move deeper into the life struggles and victories of your brothers and sisters in Christ honoring the Head by serving His body.
Prompt: How deeply are you committed to the local body of Christ?
Action Step: Sound Theology includes Ecclesiology, the study of the Church as the bride and body of Christ.
Next Step: Pray for your church leaders and the specific needs of your local congregation.
