Singing New Songs
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God
Scripture: O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. – Psalm 96:1 (KJV)
Worship can easily become a routine of familiar motions and comfortable habits, where we sing the songs but miss the reality of the Savior’s presence. Psalm 96 calls for a ‘new song,’ which is a call to bring fresh, current, and genuine gratitude to the Lord. A new song is born out of a new encounter—a reflection on how God has met you this week, the mercy He has shown, and the truths He has deepened in your heart.
As you enter into worship today, pray that God would peel back the layers of familiarity and give you a fresh vision of His glory. Don’t just show up to go through the motions; show up to bring an offering of praise that is specific to where you are right now. Tell Him exactly what He has done for you this week. When you offer Him the ‘new song’ of your own honest, current gratitude, you will find that worship ceases to be a habit and becomes a living, breathing encounter with the King.
Prompt: As you worship today, are you bringing fresh gratitude to God, or just going through the familiar motions?
Action Step: Corporate worship invites us to continually offer ‘new songs’ fresh expressions of praise for God’s ongoing faithfulness.
