Silence and Solitude
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. – Lamentations 3:26 (KJV)
In an age of constant noise and immediate gratification, the practice of silence and solitude is a counter-cultural act of devotion. To ‘quietly wait’ for the Lord is an acknowledgement that He is the Sovereign One and that our hope rests entirely in His timing rather than our own rushed agendas. Silence allows us to filter out the static of our daily lives, creating a sacred space where the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit can finally be heard above the roar of the world.
Sitting in silence requires us to be vulnerable with God stripping away the pretenses we maintain for others. It is in these moments of stillness that we often find the peace and direction we have been searching for in the wrong places. Challenge yourself to carve out time today to sit in silence; put down your phone step away from distractions and simply be present with the One who loves you.
Prompt: When was the last time you sat in complete silence to listen to God?
Action Step: The Practice of spiritual disciplines includes intentional times of solitude to hear the Lord's voice.
Next Step: Find a quiet place for 10 minutes today, turn off all devices, and just wait on the Lord.
