Serving the Church Family
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God
Scripture: For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13 (KJV)
Our call to liberty in Christ is not a license for self-indulgence, but a freedom to serve others with love. Galatians 5:13 reminds us that our freedom is meant to be used as an ‘occasion to serve one another.’ The church is a family, and like any family, it thrives when its members actively contribute to the well-being of the whole. Serving within the church is not about fulfilling an obligation; it is about participating in the life of the body of Christ, using our gifts to build up others and to extend the love of God within the community.
As you gather for worship today, look for a way to actively serve. It might be as simple as offering a warm greeting to a visitor, helping with a practical task, or offering a word of encouragement to someone who seems discouraged. Your service, no matter how small it may seem, is a vital part of making the church a welcoming and supportive environment. Let your worship be expressed not only in song and prayer but also in tangible acts of love that strengthen the bonds of your church family.
Prompt: As you gather for worship, how are you actively serving your church family?
Action Step: Sunday is about corporate worship, which includes loving and serving the body of Christ. Whether it's through an official volunteer role or simply encouraging a brother or sister in the lobby, prepare your heart to give, not just receive, as you step into the new S.T.E.P.S. week.
