Reviewing the Rule of Life
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. – Ephesians 5:15-16
Walking circumspectly means living with intentionality, carefully navigating the complexities of life to ensure our actions are consistent with our faith. We are called to ‘redeem the time,’ a phrase that implies we must actively rescue our hours from the clutches of distraction, apathy, and worldly patterns. A ‘Rule of Life’—the intentional set of rhythms and habits we establish—is the architecture of our discipleship. If our daily routines do not actively cultivate an appetite for Christ, they are likely forming us into the image of the world.
Take time today to evaluate your daily habits with spiritual wisdom. Does the way you start your morning spend your afternoons and structure your evenings leave room for the Holy Spirit to move? If your current routines are pulling you away from your desire to follow Jesus do not be discouraged; use this moment to make small corrective adjustments. By aligning your habits with your ultimate purpose, you create the space for the Spirit to renew your heart and strengthen your resolve to walk as a wise follower of Christ.
Prompt: How well do your current daily habits and routines align with your ultimate desire to follow Jesus?
Action Step: Reviewing your rule of life ensures that your daily practices continually reflect your commitment to Christ as seasons change.
