Resting the Mind
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. – Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Perfect peace is the reward of a mind that is ‘stayed’ on God—fixed firmly on His nature, His promises, and His sovereignty. We often lose our peace because our minds are instead stayed on our problems, our to-do lists, and our anxieties about the future. Resting the mind today is an act of deliberate surrender, where we consciously shift our focus from the chaos of our circumstances to the unchanging character of our Creator.
If your thoughts are racing bring them to the Lord. Surrender the worries that are consuming your mental energy and trust that He is managing the details you cannot control. As you quiet your mind before Him allow His perfect peace to replace your stress. You don’t have to carry the burden of the whole world; let your mind rest in the care of the One who never sleeps and who is working all things together for your good.
Prompt: What anxieties or busy thoughts do you need to surrender to God to find true mental rest today?
Action Step: Sabbath rest includes intentionally calming our minds and focusing our thoughts on God's peace.
