Resting in the Word
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. – Psalm 119:114
When the world feels like a place of constant threat or overwhelming pressure, the Word of God becomes our hiding place and our shield. A day of rest is the perfect time to retreat into the promises of Scripture, where we find protection for our hearts and fortification for our spirits. Psalm 119:114 reminds us that our hope is not in our circumstances or our own strategies, but in His Word. Taking a full day to reflect on these promises helps us detach from the temporary fears of the world and anchor ourselves in the eternal truths of God.
Find a ‘hiding place’ in your home today. Open your Bible not for study but for shelter. Read the promises of God—His faithfulness His provision His love—and allow them to guard your heart. Don’t look at the Bible as a textbook today, but as a refuge. Spend the day letting these words sink into your bones until you feel safe, shielded, and anchored in the hope that never fails.
Prompt: How can you use this day of rest to find refuge and hope in the promises of Scripture?
Action Step: Sabbath provides the margin needed to hide God's Word in our hearts and allow it to shield our minds.
