Resting in the Finished Work
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. – John 19:30
The cry ‘It is finished’ is the definitive declaration that our salvation is not something we earn through our frantic efforts, but something we receive through His finished work. The temptation to believe that our value is tied to our productivity is a burden that Christ died to remove. Sabbath rest is our weekly opportunity to practice this release; it is a declaration that we trust God’s sovereignty over our careers, our outcomes, and our futures. When we stop striving, we finally create the silence needed to hear His voice of love.
Today leave your tasks unfinished and resist the pressure to prove your worth. Instead focus on ‘being’ in His presence recognizing that you are already accepted in the Beloved. Let your rest be a celebration of the Cross where every requirement for your redemption was met. When you find your value in Him rather than in your weekend chores, you discover the true, restorative peace that only the finished work of Jesus can provide. Breathe in His grace, and let go of the need to earn your own way.
Prompt: As you rest today, how does Jesus' finished work on the cross bring absolute peace and security to your soul?
Action Step: Sabbath rest at the end of the year is a profound reminder that our salvation relies entirely on Christ's completed work, not our own efforts.
