Resting in the Finished Work

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. – John 19:30

The cry ‘It is finished’ is the most significant statement in human history. It signals that the debt of sin has been paid in full and that our attempts to ‘earn’ our standing with God are not only unnecessary, but offensive to the magnitude of what He accomplished. Yet, we often wake up trying to prove ourselves through our productivity, our morality, or our spiritual performance. Sabbath is our weekly opportunity to quit that striving. When we rest, we declare that our worth is already secured by the Cross.

Today if you feel the urge to justify your existence through what you achieve stop. Remind yourself: ‘It is finished.’ You do not need to work for a salvation that has already been won. Use your Sabbath to celebrate that grace. Let your rest be a bold declaration of trust in Jesus. You are loved you are accepted and you are His—not because of what you did this week, but because of what He did on the Cross. Enter into that deep, finished rest today.

Prompt: Are you trying to earn your salvation today, or are you resting in the work Christ already completed?

Action Step: Sabbath rest reminds us that our justification is fully accomplished; we work from approval, not for it.
