Resting in Sovereignty

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

Resting in God’s sovereignty is the ultimate antidote to the anxiety that plagues our modern existence. To ‘be still’ is to make a conscious choice to cease from our striving and to acknowledge that God is on the throne, working out His purposes in the earth even when we cannot see them. True rest is not a lack of concern, but an overflow of confidence that the Creator of the universe is far more capable of managing our circumstances than we are.

As you step away from the work of the week let the knowledge of His sovereignty soothe your spirit. If He is God then there is no challenge too large for His wisdom and no situation too difficult for His power. Spend this day leaning into His strength letting go of the need to control the outcome and simply resting in the majesty of the One who is in total control.

Prompt: Can you truly rest today, knowing that God is in complete control of all your circumstances?

Action Step: Sabbath rest requires us to cease our striving and surrender to the absolute sovereignty of God.
