Resting from Striving

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

Striving is the frantic belief that if we don’t fix it, work for it, or worry about it, everything will fall apart. Sabbath rest is an intentional ‘stop’ that declares: ‘I am not God, and that is a very good thing.’ When we become still, we remind our souls that the universe is under His control, not our own. Resting from striving is an act of trust; it acknowledges that He is the Sovereign One who will be exalted, regardless of our output today.

Identify the areas where your anxiety is driving you to over-function. Stop. Breathe. Hand those concerns back to Him. You do not have to hold the world on your shoulders today. Use this time to simply marvel at His greatness. As you quiet the noise, allow His peace to replace your stress, trusting that He is working perfectly, even while you are at rest.

Prompt: Where do you need to stop striving in your own strength today and simply rest in the knowledge that He is God?

Action Step: Sabbath rest allows us to cease our own frantic efforts and trust in God’s completed work and sovereign care.
