Resilience
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE
Scripture: For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. – Proverbs 24:16
Spiritual resilience is not defined by perfection, but by the refusal to remain down when we stumble. Proverbs 24:16 teaches that even a ‘just man’ falls; the distinction lies in the determination to rise again. We often view setbacks as proof of our failure, but in God’s economy, they are often the training ground for endurance. When you face discouragement, the enemy wants you to believe that your fall is fatal. The Holy Spirit, however, offers the grace of repentance and the strength to stand up once more.
How do you react when you find yourself in a season of discouragement? If you are hiding in shame you are missing the opportunity to be lifted by His grace. Resilience is found in the quick pivot from our own guilt to the finished work of Christ. Determine today that your identity is not tied to your performance but to His faithfulness. When you fall don’t wallow—rise again. Your recovery is a powerful testimony to the grace of a God who specializes in picking up the fallen.
Prompt: How do you handle spiritual setbacks or seasons of discouragement?
Action Step: The SHAPE process builds resilience by anchoring our identity in Christ's finished work rather than our perfect performance.
Next Step: Identify one recent failure and consciously surrender it to God's grace today.
