Reflecting on the Year
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness. – Psalm 65:11
Reflecting on the year is a spiritual practice that helps us recognize God’s faithfulness in seasons we have already survived. Psalm 65:11 reminds us that God ‘crowns the year with His goodness.’ Even if your year was filled with hardship or unexpected pain, there were hidden mercies, sustained strengths, and moments of grace that you might have missed in the rush. Taking the time to look back allows us to build an altar of remembrance and prepare our hearts for the year to come.
Set aside time today to write down a ‘year in review’ through the lens of God’s goodness. Where did He provide? Where did He change your heart? What did you learn that you didn’t know twelve months ago? By intentionally recounting His faithfulness you ensure that you enter the next season with a heart of praise rather than a heart of anxiety. Remember His past goodness as you step into the future—it is the best guarantee of His presence.
Prompt: As the year nears its end, have you taken time to reflect on God's goodness and faithfulness over the past months?
Action Step: Sabbath rest at the end of the year involves looking back to trace God's hand, allowing gratitude to fuel your rest.
