Reflecting on the Cross
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. – Galatians 6:14
The Cross is the definitive center of history—the place where the power of the world was broken and the love of God was fully revealed. When we gaze upon the Cross, our earthly anxieties over success, reputation, and security begin to shrink. Galatians 6:14 tells us that through the Cross, the world is ‘crucified’ to us; we are no longer bound by its opinions or its temporary promises. Sabbath is the perfect time to let this reality settle over our lives, washing away the week’s tensions with the blood of Christ.
Spend time today reflecting on the magnitude of what happened at Calvary. Don’t look at it as a past event; look at it as the current anchor for your soul. Does your pride over a promotion or your panic over a failure seem so large when held up against the weight of His sacrifice? Let the Cross recalibrate your values. By glorying only in Him, you find a rest that no accomplishment can provide and a peace that no anxiety can disturb.
Prompt: How does taking time on the Sabbath to reflect deeply on the cross put all your earthly achievements and anxieties into perspective?
Action Step: True rest is found when we cease glorying in our own works and instead boast entirely in the finished work of Christ on the cross.
