Reflecting on Mercy
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)
Mercy is the reason we are still standing. The promise of Lamentations is that God’s compassions ‘fail not’—they are inexhaustible and constant, refreshed every morning regardless of how we ended the day before. On your day of rest, take the opportunity to look back at the past week and trace the hand of God’s mercy. Where did He protect you? Where did He provide? Where did He forgive you when you failed?
Don’t let the busyness of the week drown out the memory of His faithfulness. Write down three specific ways you saw His mercy this week. By doing this, you turn your rest into an act of worship. You are acknowledging that His mercies were not just generic—they were personal, constant, and intentional. End your week with a heart full of gratitude, knowing that tomorrow morning, His mercies will be waiting for you once again.
Prompt: As you rest today, how can you deeply reflect on the new mercies God has provided for you this past week?
Action Step: Sabbath rest offers the opportunity to pause and acknowledge God’s unfailing compassion and daily faithfulness to us.
