Reflecting on Heaven

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. – Colossians 3:2

We are easily consumed by the ‘things on the earth’—the pressures of our jobs, the weight of our finances, and the pull of the world’s expectations. A day of rest is a divine tool for de-centering these earthly concerns and re-centering our affections on heaven. When we stop our labor, we are forced to confront the reality that we are not the providers of our own lives; God is. This detachment is essential, because we cannot set our minds on eternity if we are constantly tethered to the temporal.

Use today to intentionally shift your perspective. Instead of focusing on what you need to fix or finish, focus on who you are in Christ and the eternal inheritance that awaits you. Read a passage about the hope of glory, spend time in worship, and allow the silence to remind you that your home is not here. By lifting your eyes above your daily grind, you gain the clarity and strength needed to live for the things that truly last. Let your Sabbath be a preview of the eternal rest found only in Him.

Prompt: How does taking a day of rest help you detach from worldly concerns and set your mind on eternity?

Action Step: Sabbath rest is a weekly foretaste of the eternal rest we will experience in heaven.
