Reflecting on God’s Love
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. – Zephaniah 3:17
We often view God as a distant taskmaster or a demanding judge, but Zephaniah 3:17 gives us the shocking image of a God who rejoices over His people with singing. Imagine the Creator of the stars pausing to celebrate His love for you. This is the ultimate cure for restlessness. When you know that you are the object of God’s delight, you no longer have to perform to earn His favor; you can simply rest in His affection.
As you spend time in reflection today let this picture sink deep into your spirit. You are not a burden to God; you are His joy. He is not stressed about your failures; He is resting in His love for you. Let go of the need to be ‘enough’ for everyone else and be satisfied in the truth that you are enough for Him. Allow His song of love to drown out the noise of your anxieties and settle your heart into a place of deep quiet peace.
Prompt: How does picturing God rejoicing over you with singing bring rest to your soul today?
Action Step: Sabbath reflection allows us to simply bask in the unmerited, joyful love of our Creator.
