Receiving the Benediction

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God

Scripture: The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. – Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)

The priestly benediction in Numbers 6 is more than a polite closing; it is a declaration of God’s active favor toward His people. When we receive the benediction at the end of a service, we are being sent out into the world with the weight of God’s blessing resting upon us. Many of us rush toward the exit, mentally moving on to our lunch plans, failing to realize that this is a moment to intentionally open our hands and hearts to receive what He is speaking over us.

As you conclude worship today, intentionally pause and listen to the final blessing. Don’t treat it as the ‘dismissal’; treat it as an impartation of grace. Receive the promise of His keeping power, His gracious face, and His profound peace. Carry that benediction with you as you walk out the doors, knowing that you are walking into the world under the canopy of His favor. It is the perfect conclusion to worship and the perfect beginning to your week.

Prompt: Do you receive the spoken blessings and benedictions in corporate worship as a tangible impartation of God’s peace?

Action Step: Corporate worship often concludes with a benediction, a moment to gratefully receive God’s blessing as you are sent back into the world.
