Principles of Servant Leadership
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: – Mark 10:43 (KJV)
In the economy of the Kingdom, greatness is inverted. While the world measures success by how many people serve us, Jesus measures it by how many people we serve. True leadership is not about power, status, or being the center of attention; it is about washing feet and carrying burdens. When you lead like Jesus, you stop seeking the applause of men and start seeking the flourishing of those you lead.
Examine your current spheres of influence—at work, in your family, or at church. Are you using your position to make your life easier, or are you using it to make others’ lives better? True servant leadership requires us to sacrifice our ego to build up the body. Ask God to give you the heart of a minister today so that in your serving, others might see the reflection of the One who came not to be ministered unto, but to minister.
Prompt: Do you view leadership as an opportunity to be served and recognized, or as a calling to serve and elevate others?
Action Step: The Equip module reminds us that biblical leadership flips the world’s model upside down, making the leader the servant of all.
Next Step: Identify one way you can quietly serve someone who is nominally ‘under’ your leadership today.
