Preparing for the Word
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. – James 1:21 (KJV)
Receiving the Word of God requires a heart that has been cleared of the debris of the world. James instructs us to ‘lay apart’ the filthiness and pride that naturally accumulate throughout the week, creating an environment where the ‘engrafted word’ can take root and grow. Preparing for church is not just about showing up; it is about posturing our souls in humility and meekness so that we are ready to be transformed by the truth.
As you head into worship ask the Lord to soften the soil of your heart. Let go of the distractions the cynicism and the busyness of the past days. Approach the reading and preaching of Scripture with a hunger for change believing that the Word has the power to save your soul and reshape your life. Your readiness to receive is the key to experiencing the fullness of what God intends to speak to you today.
Prompt: As you prepare for corporate worship tomorrow, how are you intentionally preparing your heart to receive and obey God’s Word?
Action Step: Sabbath rest should include intentional time to quiet our minds and prepare our hearts to encounter God through His Word.
