Physical Rest
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. – Mark 6:31 (KJV)
Rest is not an interruption to our work for God; it is a vital part of our stewardship of the life He gave us. Jesus understood that constant ‘coming and going’ leads to depletion, and He frequently withdrew to rest. Honoring God means recognizing the limits He designed for our human bodies; to ignore those limits is to live as though we are our own sustainers. Physical rest is an act of trust, a declaration that the world will keep spinning even when we stop to recover.
Make today an intentional Sabbath for your body. Step away from the noise the screens and the demands of the week. Sleep walk read, or simply sit in the quiet. By giving your body the rest it needs, you are practicing humility—acknowledging that you are a creature, not the Creator. Return to your responsibilities tomorrow from a place of rejuvenation, recognizing that your value is defined by His love, not your productivity.
Prompt: How can you honor God today by allowing your physical body the rest it needs to recover and rejuvenate?
Action Step: Sabbath rest requires us to recognize our human limitations and trust God enough to simply stop and rest.
