Personal Holiness

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE

Scripture: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. – 1 Peter 1:15-16 (KJV)

Holiness is not an abstract religious concept, but a practical call to live differently in the world. Peter urges believers to be holy in ‘all manner of conversation,’ meaning our daily interactions, our speech, and our choices should reflect the character of God. It’s about being set apart—not from the world in isolation, but from the world’s corrupting influences. When we pursue holiness, we are aligning ourselves with the very nature of God, who is perfectly pure and righteous.

To truly understand holiness, we must move beyond a list of rules and embrace the transformative power of God’s Spirit. It means actively choosing what is true, just, and lovely, even when it is difficult. Ask yourself today: In the ordinary moments of your life, are you reflecting the holiness of the One who called you? Pursuing holiness is a lifelong journey, but it begins with the daily decision to honor God in every aspect of your conversation and conduct.

Prompt: What does the word "holiness" mean to you in your everyday life?

Action Step: In the SHAPE process, we learn that communion with God requires holiness. It is how we reflect His character to the world.

Next Step: Ask God to reveal one area of your life that needs to be brought into alignment with His holiness today.
