Perseverance of Saints
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology
Scripture: Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: – Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints—often called ‘eternal security’—is not a license for complacency; it is the ultimate source of courage. It rests on a simple, life-changing truth: the quality of your salvation depends on the faithfulness of God, not on your ability to hold on to Him. When trials come and you feel your own resolve weakening, you can stand on the confidence that the One who initiated your salvation is the One who guarantees its completion.
If you are feeling weary or prone to wandering today, stop looking at your own performance and look at His promise. The ‘good work’ in you is His project, and He never leaves a task unfinished. Endure your current trial with the assurance that He is using it to refine you, not destroy you. You are in His hands, and no one can pluck you out.
Prompt: How does knowing that God will finish the work He started in you give you strength to endure trials?
Action Step: Sound Theology assures us that our salvation is secured by God’s faithfulness, not our own perfection.
Next Step: Thank God today that your eternal security rests in His power to sustain you.
