Overcoming Temptation
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)
Temptation is an inevitable part of the human experience, but it is never an excuse for sin. God’s faithfulness is manifested in His promise to never allow us to face more than we can bear; He always provides a ‘way of escape’—a path of obedience that allows us to honor Him even under pressure. The challenge is often that we become so focused on the temptation that we fail to look for the exit sign God has placed right in front of us.
When the pull of the world feels strong stop and ask the Lord for the eyes to see the escape route. It might be a change of location a specific verse of Scripture or a sudden realization of the consequences. By trusting in His promise you can endure any test, knowing that God is not just an observer of your struggle, but the active provider of your victory. Remain alert and expectant, for your escape is guaranteed by His faithful hand.
Prompt: When you are tempted, do you look for the 'way of escape' that God has promised to provide?
Action Step: The Equip module trains us to recognize temptation and use spiritual disciplines to overcome it.
