Scripture: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: – 1 Peter 3:15

The internet is a vast mission field, but it is often characterized by hostility and shallow arguments. To be an effective witness online, we must first ‘sanctify the Lord God’ in our hearts, ensuring that our motivation is love rather than a desire to ‘win’ a debate. 1 Peter 3:15 commands us to give an answer with ‘meekness and fear.’ Online, this looks like choosing not to escalate, responding with clarity rather than aggression, and always pointing the questioner back to the hope we have in Jesus.

Before you comment or engage in a discussion today pause and pray. Ask God to guide your words so that they reflect His character. Avoid the temptation to engage in flame wars and instead look for the ‘seeker’ behind the screen. If you are unprepared to answer a question it is okay to admit it and offer to research it later. Your goal is not to prove your intellectual superiority, but to clearly and kindly communicate the reason for your hope.

Prompt: How can you prepare yourself to answer questions about your faith in online spaces respectfully?

Action Step: Engaging with culture online requires a firm grasp of truth balanced with gentleness and respect.

Next Step: Think of a common objection to Christianity you see online and research a biblical response today.
