Obedience
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. – James 1:22 (KJV)
James warns us that the danger of hearing the truth without doing the truth is self-deception. We can become experts in theology while remaining novices in obedience. God’s Word is not meant to be a collection of interesting ideas; it is a blueprint for a transformed life. Every time we know the right thing to do but delay, we harden our hearts just a little bit more. Obedience is the only path to spiritual growth.
What is that one thing you’ve been putting off? Maybe it’s a difficult conversation, a change in your finances, a commitment to forgive, or a step of service. Don’t wait for ‘a better time’—that time will never come. The only time we have is now. Take the first step of obedience today. You will find that God provides the grace for the action, but He expects you to take the step.
Prompt: What is one specific thing God has told you to do through His Word that you have been delaying?
Action Step: The Practice of discipleship requires us to move from simply knowing scripture to actively obeying it.
Next Step: Commit to taking one tangible step of obedience today regarding a conviction God has laid on your heart.
