Meditation on the Word
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. – Psalm 1:2 (KJV)
Meditation is the bridge between reading the Bible and living it. While reading gives us the information, meditation gives us the transformation. It involves pondering, whispering, and ruminating on God’s Word until it moves from our heads into our hearts. Psalm 1:2 describes this as a delight—a process of finding deep, nourishing satisfaction in what God has said. If we skip meditation, we are like someone who eats a meal but never digests it.
Take one verse today and carry it with you. Instead of moving quickly to the next chapter stay in that one passage. Ask the Holy Spirit: ‘Lord what are You saying to me through this? How does this change my perspective on my current situation?’ By shifting from ‘getting through the Bible’ to ‘letting the Bible get through to you ‘ you will find your life increasingly shaped by His wisdom.
Prompt: Do you simply read the Bible, or do you take time to think deeply about what it means for your life?
Action Step: The Practice of meditation involves 'chewing' on Scripture until it transforms our inner thought life.
Next Step: Choose one verse today and think about it multiple times throughout your daily routine.
