Legacy and Will

Scripture: For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. – Hebrews 9:16

The concept of a ‘testament’ reminds us that our earthly stewardship has a finite window. As the author of Hebrews points out, a legacy is only activated when we pass it on. This is a sobering but empowering truth: everything we own is a tool entrusted to us for a brief time to advance the purposes of the Kingdom. Considering how our resources are used after we are gone is an act of ultimate stewardship. It ensures that our lives continue to bear fruit for the Gospel long after we have finished our course.

Have you arranged your affairs with a vision for the Kingdom? Whether it is through a will estate planning or simply teaching your heirs to prioritize the Gospel you have the ability to leave behind a resource that keeps giving. Don’t let your earthly wealth be a forgotten pile; let it be a seed planted for the next generation. Pray for wisdom on how to structure your resources so that even in your absence your life continues to speak of the generosity and grace of God.

Prompt: Have you considered how your earthly resources will be used for God's Kingdom after you are gone?

Action Step: The Share module reminds us that true stewardship includes planning for how our resources will advance the Gospel when we pass.

Next Step: Review your will or estate plan, considering how you might leave a financial legacy for ministry.
