Imago Dei (Image of God)

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology

Scripture: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. – Genesis 1:27 (KJV)

To be created in the image of God is to bear the stamp of the Creator upon your soul. This truth is the foundation of human dignity and the ultimate remedy for our struggles with insecurity or comparison. Your worth is not determined by your performance, your beauty, or your productivity; it is determined by the fact that you were intentionally fashioned to reflect the nature of the Almighty. When we forget this, we are easily swayed by the world’s shifting standards of value.

Today, fight the urge to define yourself by the world’s metrics. Look at your life through the lens of Genesis 1:27. Because you bear His image, you have inherent, God-given value that can never be diminished by your mistakes or the opinions of others. Rest in the assurance that you were made for fellowship with God, and let this identity shape every decision you make, providing you with a confidence that is rooted in the One who designed you.

Prompt: How does knowing you are made in the very image of God change how you view your own worth?

Action Step: Theology establishes that human dignity is not earned, but inherent because we bear the Imago Dei.

Next Step: Thank God today for intentionally designing you to reflect His nature.
