Hospitality as Practice
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: Use hospitality one to another without grudging. – 1 Peter 4:9 (KJV)
Hospitality is a spiritual practice that transforms our homes into outposts of the Kingdom of God. To practice it ‘without grudging’ means offering ourselves to others not as a burden to be endured, but as a joy to be shared. It is about creating a space—whether a literal room or an emotional atmosphere—where people feel safe, heard, and loved by the grace of Christ. Your presence can be a sanctuary for a weary soul if you choose to make room for them.
Consider how you can extend this welcome today. It doesn’t require a perfect setting or a elaborate meal; it requires a heart that is open to the needs of others. When you offer hospitality you are modeling the invitation Christ extends to us every day. Ask the Lord to help you see those who need a place of belonging and offer them the kindness of a welcoming presence.
Prompt: How can you make your home or your presence a welcoming space for others today?
Action Step: The Practice of discipleship includes opening our lives and homes to bless others.
Next Step: Invite someone you don't know well for a meal or coffee this week.
