Honoring Spiritual Leaders

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God

Scripture: Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. – 1 Timothy 5:17 (KJV)

Spiritual leaders are gifts to the church, tasked with the heavy responsibility of ‘labouring in the word and doctrine’ to feed the flock of God. Honoring them is a biblical command that reflects our appreciation for the way God uses them to guard our souls and guide our growth. ‘Double honour’ can be expressed through our financial support, but it is equally expressed through our prayers, our encouragement, and our willingness to act on the truth they teach.

As you arrive at church today look for a way to personally thank the elders and pastors who serve your body. A simple word of encouragement or a prayer for their stamina can mean more than you know to someone who watches for your soul. By honoring them you are honoring the Lord who appointed them fostering a culture of gratitude and mutual respect that strengthens the entire congregation for the week ahead.

Prompt: As you gather for worship today, how can you express gratitude for the leaders who faithfully teach you God's Word?

Action Step: Worshiping God involves honoring the spiritual shepherds He has appointed to guide and protect the flock.
