Guarding Against Deception
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. – Colossians 2:8 (KJV)
We live in an age of competing philosophies, where ‘vain deceit’ is often packaged in sophisticated rhetoric. The enemy’s schemes are rarely blatant attacks; they are often subtle distortions that prioritize human logic or cultural trends over the unchanging truth of Christ. To be ‘spoiled’ is to be plundered, and the enemy seeks to plunder our time, our loyalties, and our faith by filling our minds with the ‘rudiments of the world’ instead of the wisdom of God.
Guard your mind by subjecting every idea influencer and cultural narrative to the standard of Scripture. If a voice does not lead you toward greater love for Christ and deeper obedience to His commands it is not a voice you should allow to shape your thinking. Be intentional today about what you consume. Immerse yourself in the Word so thoroughly that when a counterfeit message appears you can identify it immediately and dismiss it in favor of the Truth.
Prompt: What steps are you taking to ensure the voices you listen to align with God's Word?
Action Step: The Equip module trains us to discern truth from error in a deceptive world.
Next Step: Evaluate the media you consumed today through the lens of Scripture.
